Carnaval
Carnival (Basse Terre) – as in other Catholic countries, Carnival is a major event in Guadeloupe (as well as the other French-speaking islands). With festivities beginning on the Sunday after Epiphany (early January), a parade is held every weekend, the with Finale on Mardi Gras. That day, a parade takes place in Basse-Terre, with many oversized multi-color floats, and thousands of local revelers (often dressed in elaborate costumes wit trimmings – from feathers to rhinestones & sequins). Brass and percussion bands often join in.
