Windsurf
Windsurfing – the same waves that greet traditional surfers at Sainte-Anne and Saint-François (on the southeast coast of Grande-Terre) also attract a lot of windsufers (which is becoming an evolving pursuit among local teens and visitors, in particular). As a result, various events are put together (sometimes formal, but often informal) at these beaches. Some of these events even make the local newspapers. Karukera Surf Club organizes one such event, called “Tainos Free Poupoul” every May, which attracts at least 60 participants.
Another event locals put together is called “GPE Windsurf Tour” – held at various Guadeloupe beachside locations during the early months of the year. Participants come in various age groups: from pre-teens to adults. There is a windsurfing school at Saint-François, “Action Nautique No Limit” (www.windsurf-guadeloupe.fr) that offers courses to both beginners and more advanced windsurfers
